Schulte Grahame Honored with 2026 Heart of CommUNITY Collaboration Award

FYE Teaching Professor Kathryn Schulte Grahame was selected as a 2026 recipient of Northeastern University’s Heart of CommUNITY: Collaboration Award. The honor recognizes organizations and individuals who have made a transformative impact on both the university and community ecosystems.

Since 2016, Schulte Grahame has integrated service-learning within her First-Year Engineering Cornerstone classes, partnering with Christiane Amstutz and the Beachmont Elementary Team. The selection committee noted that over nearly a decade, the partners have built a relationship grounded in genuine reciprocity, shared ownership, and a commitment to making STEAM education meaningful for every student in the room. The award showcases a deep commitment to social justice, community impact, and a shared university-community initiative focused on increasing equity or access to resources to improve quality of life. Schulte Grahame will be officially celebrated at an awards event on June 11.
