Innovating Through Artificial Intelligence
Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, state economic development and technology leaders, and other officials visited Northeastern to learn from faculty how AI can solve some of the most pressing issues in the state and the world. CEE Distinguished Professor Auroop Ganguly, ECE/Khoury Distinguished Professor Jennifer Dy, and ECE Professor Taskin Padir were in attendance.

Robotics Student Awarded Amazon Robotics Day One Fellowship
Oscar De La Garza, MS’25, robotics, is participating in an internship at Amazon Robotics as part of being named one of just seven students awarded the 2023 Amazon Robotics Day One Fellowship. The fellowship supports emerging leaders in science from backgrounds underrepresented in STEM, awarding scholarships, mentorship, and career opportunities.

NSF CAREER Award To Design Robots To Navigate Crawlspaces
ECE Assistant Professor Alireza Ramezani was awarded a $681,000 NSF CAREER Award for “Dynamic Locomotion With Plasticity for Remote Sensing in Crawlspaces.” The research will focus on developing an autonomous robotic device that mimics bird and bat movement to effectively move through tight crawl spaces while gathering data through sensors.

Team Northeastern won $1 million in third place among 17 finalists from around the globe in the ANA Avatar XPrize robotics competition.

Northeastern Team Advances to Finals of ANA Avatar XPRIZE
Team Northeastern is one of 15 teams selected as finalists in the ANA Avatar XPRIZE. Finalist teams will equally share a milestone prize purse of $2M and move on to Finals Testing in Fall 2022 for their chance to win part of the $8M Finals prize purse.

NU Team PARIS Wins in Phase 1 of American-Made E-ROBOT Prize
A Northeastern faculty and student team was awarded a $200K prize as a finalist for Phase 1 of the U.S. Department of Energy’s American-Made Challenges E-ROBOT Prize. In Phase 2, up to four teams (from the 10 finalists) will receive a $500K award. The team’s submission proposed development of a Precise Air-sealing Robot for Inaccessible Spaces (PARIS). The Northeastern team is advised by ECE Associate Professor Taskin Padir, CEE Assistant Professor Michael Kane, and ECE Distinguished Professor Carey Rappaport.
