PhD Student Rashida Nayeem finalist for Best Paper Award in Cognitive Robotics at The International Conference on Robotics and Automation 2020
EE PhD student Rashida Nayeem, advised by Prof. Dagmar Sternad, was a finalist for the Best Paper Award in Cognitive Robotics at the 2020 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation for her paper “Transient Behavior and Predictability in Manipulating Complex Objects.”

Bioengineers Develop Innovative Respiratory-Assist Device as Alternative to Ventilator
BioE alumnus Craig Smallwood, PhD’18, invented a respiratory-assist device as an alternative to a ventilator for low-resource environments. BioE Professor and Chair Lee Makowski, in collaboration with physicians at Korle Bu Hospital in Ghana, has made the first few of these devices available for use on patients suffering from respiratory distress.

Using Drones to Monitor Penguin Populations
Computer Engineering PhD students Yang Liu and Vikrant Shah traveled to Antarctica to count the dwindling population of chinstrap penguins with drones.
