Bioengineering Capstone Team Improves Healthcare in Rural Maine
As part of their capstone project, bioengineering students developed Flextab, a circular silicon-based tab that replaces stickers on an electrocardiogram (EKG), after learning about healthcare professionals’ needs in rural Maine working with the Roux Institute at Northeastern.

Gaining Microscopy Experience on Co-ops on the East and West Coasts
Cameron D’Mello, E’25, bioengineering, developed microscopy skills on two co-ops, one at Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston as a lab researcher, and the other at QuantumScape in San Jose, Calif. Both experiences helped solidify her plans to work in biotechnology research and development of health care products.

Medication Plus Support Groups Increases Effectiveness of Opioid Use Disorder Treatment
MIE Associate Professor Muhammad Noor E Alam’s research, published in the International Journal of Medical Informatics, found that people in treatment for opioid addiction are 25% more likely to complete medication if they also attend a support group.
