September 10, 2010 was the historic groundbreaking for the George J. Kostas Research Institute for Homeland Security which will facilitate university researchers’ work in such fields as cryptography, data security, information assurance, robust infrastructure, and energy harvesting.

ChE Alum Donates $12M
Chemical Engineering Alumnus George J. Kostas has donated $12M to build a homeland security research facility on Northeastern's Burlington Campus. This is the largest donation for capital in the University's history.

New Faculty Spotlight: Philip Larese-Casanova
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering welcomes Assistant Professor Philip Larese-Casanova, who joined the faculty in Fall 2010 after serving as a post-doctoral research associate at the Institute for Biospheric Studies at Yale University and the Center for Applied Geosciences at the Eberhard-Karls University Tuebingen in Germany.
